Smokin J’s Barbeque Recap of City Fest 2016

Smokin J’s at Dallas Inaugural City Fest 2016

certificate and pin for ribsHad a great competition weekend at the first City Fest 2016 in Dallas, Georgia.

Fifteen professional Georgia Barbecue Association teams competed for the top team in ribs, pork loin, and pork butt.

Some teams competed in the “People’s Choice,” category.

The weather started gloomy Friday morning, but skies cleared and residents came out to enjoy a beautiful Saturday.

A car show, craft vendors, and activities for kids were surrounding the downtown Dallas Square; however, the main event was the barbecue battle.

Barbecue Competition is Tough

The competition was fierce but points leader, Rescue Smokers took the Grand Champion trophy for the day with a nearly perfect score in the pulled pork category.

Pitmaster Robbie Royal also took 2nd in the loin category.

Bird Dawg BBQ had the highest cumulative score in the preliminary round to take the Reserve Grand Champion position.

Local team, Smokin The Good Stuff from Hiram, took 3rd best overall for the day.

Smokin J’s Barbeque had a difficult cook; however, did get a 9th place call in the rib category.

We may not have received the scores we were hoping for, but we learned a lot at this competition and enjoyed seeing our barbecue family.

We would like to thank our personal friends that stopped by to say “hello” in our former hometown; David and Karen Olson; Jason Webster; Terry and Beth McCoy; and Don Warren.

We look forward to the Canton BBQ and Brews competition and seeing more friends.
