    Moonshine Creek Campground

After our wonderful experience at a family operated KOA Travelers Rest campground, see my summary at http://joannsfoodbites.com/camping-koa-travelers-rest/; Doug and I were looking for another family operated a campground in the Blue Ridge Mountains for a quick getaway Fourth of July weekend.  Moonshine Creek Campground is a quiet, clean and a comfortable location fitting the bill perfectly. Moonshine Creek Campground Amenities Providing 91 shady campsites, the family operated campground has long-term leases on several of these sites, however, there are sites available even for those larger rigs, like ours.  The majority of sites have full hookups (sewer, water, electric) and cable for a small additional fee.  Not all sites provide 50…

    Top 10 Tailgating Essentials

Football season is in full swing, so let’s examine the essentials of a good tailgate party. We love BASEBALL, NASCAR AND NFL FOOTBALL AND we love tailgating! It is even better when you can take all the comforts of home with you to the tailgate event! I have tailgated out of the back of my car; froze under quick tents; been under sweltering heat and in the snow! Since relocating, we are closer to Darlington Speedway, the “track too tough to tame,” I am hoping to have the opportunity to tailgate with our camper at a NASCAR Race. Nevertheless, there are some essentials every tailgater NEEDS to make his party…

Camping at KOA in Travelers Rest, South Carolina

Taking the camper to the mountains Last fall, when my husband discussed relocating to South Carolina, I was apprehensive but excited.  I knew the process of packing our belongings, moving and getting into a new house was going to be an ordeal.  I did not realize we would be living in our 5th wheel camper for several months.  Nevertheless, Doug found a beautiful, quaint campground just north of Travelers Rest that was very comfortable. My Camper Kitchen Cooking meals in the camper for several months was a challenge, especially because I was a rookie at cooking in a convection/microwave oven. What kind of dishes can I use? Can I put…

    Using a Camper Microwave-Convection Oven

Installed frequently in recreational vehicles, a microwave-convection oven is self-explanatory, a combination of a regular convection oven with a microwave.  Users are able to use the quick interior cooking of microwaves combined with the surface browning of hot air.  What is a convection oven? Convection cooking allows for the interior cooking of a traditional oven, just hotter and faster. Convection oven technology uses a fan to force air movement and heat up the full interior of the microwave to cook food from the inside out. That’s why you can use convection microwaves to bake and roast things that would otherwise be cooked too quickly (and not thoroughly) with just a…

    Towns Bluff Campground Barbecue Festival

Enjoyed a beautiful weekend at Towns Bluff Campground and Heritage Center in Hazlehurst, Georgia. Mother nature was wonderful to 28 GBA professional cook teams as they battled it out for the best in pork loin, pulled pork, and pork ribs. The RV park/campground is a comfortable location for the teams, large enough to accommodate cooking rigs but intimate enough to enjoy fellowship among competitors. I give thanks for all the friendships we (Smokin J’s Barbeque) have acquired through the Georgia Barbecue Association. Comfort at Towns Bluff RV Park On the Altamaha River and the Bullard Creek Wildlife Management Area, the Heritage Center has a small wildlife museum representing native animals…
