Taking the camper to the mountains
Last fall, when my husband discussed relocating to South Carolina, I was apprehensive but excited. I knew the process of packing our belongings, moving and getting into a new house was going to be an ordeal. I did not realize we would be living in our 5th wheel camper for several months. Nevertheless, Doug found a beautiful, quaint campground just north of Travelers Rest that was very comfortable.
My Camper Kitchen
Cooking meals in the camper for several months was a challenge, especially because I was a rookie at cooking in a convection/microwave oven.
- What kind of dishes can I use?
- Can I put aluminum foil in the convection oven?
- What adjustments, if any, need to be made to temperature and time for cooking?

Perfect Location
The Travelers Rest KOA is located just north of downtown Travelers Rest, directly off the northbound lane of Hwy 25, the perfect location for Doug’s commute. Only about 40 minutes from downtown Asheville, the family owned campground is the perfect location for a family retreat to the mountains. Jason and Rebecca Tubb, own and operate the campground, which has been awarded the 2016 KOA Founders Award for their positive reviews and praise from guest. They also were given the 2016 KOA President’s Award, for their outstanding customer service and high quality standards.

Comfortable Amenities
A small brook flows throughout the campground and most sites are just a few steps from the tranquil water. Spots are available for larger motor coaches, up to 45′ long. Power, water, sewage and cable hook ups are available at all sites, and tent sites are available for those more rugged campers.
The heavily wooded acreage makes for a great stroll after dinner and the campground store has ice cream snacks for purchase if you need a sweet treat. Adjacent to the store, is the first of two laundry facilities and a nice sized, men and women shower/bathroom is located here, which is right in the middle of the campground property. Campers can sit on the deck, on the rear of the building, and sit on the patio to make use of the the Wi-Fi.
I admit my favorite aspect of this campground was Jason and Jennifer. They are wonderful people that will do almost anything to make your stay more comfortable. When I needed my large propane cylinder filled, Jason would pick up the empty tank at my site, bring back the full tank and even helped me get the new tank back in the camper compartment. Jason works tirelessly to keep the grass mowed, leaves blown and the entire campground clean and neat. His family made our extended stay very pleasant.
